    Hey tilly,

    Yep, many people (especially long time aquapons) run their systems at a lower pH than what this site, Sylvia's book, Murray Hallam et.al, recommend. And they do just fine at pH levels in the mid-upper5's to lower 6's...once they've finished cycling of coarse.

    I'm not sure what your "low" or in the case of the greenhouse you mentioned, "very low" mean exactly, nor what your comment is in reference to..? If it's in reference to Allysins situation(?) her biggest problem there is that she has a pH test kit that only reads to 6. That is to say that it shows the same color whether her pH is 6.0 or whether it's 4.0 (or anything below 6.0) and that's bad. Not having any way to know where you're pH is really at (once it's at or below 6.0), and at the same time, not being aware that people have to buffer there system water up...ever, isn't good.

    At any rate IMO you are on to something good... running at a 'low' pH especially if the plants are you're 'main concern'.
