I have had a garden in my backyard for the last three years with mixed results. I became interested in the idea of hydroponics as a a way to better control the growing process and maximize my yeilds. I initially figured an aquaponics set up wouldn't work for me because of the winter in Ontario, but I am brainstorming an inground greenhouse with a trout pond on the bottom. I am hoping the earth will regulate temperatures well enough to avoid any major heating costs. I have just started a small aquaponic system in my kitchen window.

I read that you would like to use pickeral/walley for the fish in your system. My brother-inlaw went to lindsy college for aquaculture and he found a study that was done on pickeral. the findings were that it takes 12 generations of captive breeding before they stopped canibalising one another. Unfortunatly when they were done the study they destroied the fish. I am sorry I don't remember the name of that study and the only place that I know of to possably find it is at Sir Sanford Flemming college in Lindsy.
