We are using a white uv green house plastic the four year type. It has a 50 % light blocker built into it. We are testing it too see if it will work here in Fla. We didn't go with the clear that has a 90% light rating knowing we would have to get a shade cloth to go with it,with the white we may only need one in this Fla sun. Nice system see you are we acquainted with friendly aquaponics. I have there micro system manual for the 64 and 128 systems. That is going to be one of my next setups onside of the greenhouse. Goto my page I have a material list of all the parts we used for the green house.
I just looked at your pictures, the system looks great! Very clean and neat install! What size pump are you using and are you in an area to keep the fish outside year round?
I guess the 12v air pump comes on in loss of power. Keep the pictures coming!
The solar panel powers a LED Flood light to give me some light in the back yard. You asked about the gravel and which I like better. I guess you meant the gravel bed vs. the PVC NFT setup. I am not real sure which I like better at this point but will know by summer. I am anxious to see your results with the raft system and see what all grows well.
I am almost finished with my filtration barrels. I have yet to purchase the moving-bed media but am hesitant since it will cost me $100 for 4 cubic foot + $38 shipping. But probably bite the bullet and get it. I currently have 6 large tilapia in one IBC and about 75 small ones in my growout tank. They seem to doing fine. Plants seem to be marginal, probably because the biofiltration is not yet functional.
