    Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics. There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.     I'm not sure how you will manage a system without any sort of tank but you could probably manage something with a smaller tank if you want to cycle up fishless and add on later.
    What sort of system are you thinking of?

    If you are doing flood and drain gravel beds, I'd just add a hand full of worms to each bed along with some worm castings. I know some people who actually run systems fishless and feed the worms by fermenting some grains and soy before adding them to the grow beds under some fabric for the worms to eat. Other people have set up systems where they have a worm bin that gets water from the system and drains back to the system. I like to have worms directly in the grow beds but if you ever want to harvest worms and castings, that is difficult to do from a gravel beds.
