How did you find us?
Sylvia left a comment on my blog about my experimental system.
Are you an aquaponic gardener already?
Starting first system
If so, what type of system? (pick all that apply)
I started building on February 20th, 2010 and finally finished getting most of the pieces together on March 5th, 2010. I'm running a 55 gallon fish tank with decorative fish (including 5 bottom feeders) into 2 16 quart plastic bins filled with hydroton. The water is gravity fed back into the tank.

So far I have the following seeds germinating: beefsteak tomatoes, sweet peppers, Great Lakes lettuce, Marketmore cucumber, cilantro, lavender, and oregano. I'm waiting on the snap peas, Genovese basil, and scallion seeds to catch up. I transplanted a strawberry plant that seems to be doing well. I've also plopped in some green onions just to see if they'll last longer, to find they started rooting.
Please tell us something else about yourself.
I'm a graphic designer (online and offline) who has been raising fish and aquascaping for the past several years. I love gardening, but since I moved to the desert my green thumb turned brown.

I run my own web comic as a visual blog: http://www.emacartoon.com

    Hi Emma,

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a great place to meet fellow aquapons, share videos and photos, chat, and learn. I’ve started the ball rolling with a few general forum topics, and will try to add more on a regular basis, but I’m hoping that you and others will add your own topics as they occur to you. I see you have already added some photos of your systems and become the first member of a couple groups - way to get things going! By the way, Rebecca Nelson is a member of this forum and, besides a bunch of other things, she is the author of Desktop Aquaponics. From your photos, she might be a great resource for you.

We have just a few simple rules: stay on the subject of aquaponics and keep it cordial (no flaming!). If someone decides to break these rules they will get a warning, and then be banned from the community after that. But I’m hoping that never happens!

I’m new to forum management and this is a new forum, so any and all suggestions are welcome.

Please invite all your aquaponic friends to join us (Facebook? Twitter?). We need a ton of people in here so we can really get rolling!

Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.

    Sylvia

Emma, one more thought. You are welcome to link your blog into here. I'd love to see how your system goes, and I know others on here would as well.
