Motives for aquaponics?

Just wondering what inspires people to grow using aquaponics. How big is your system and what are your future goals with aquaponics.

Hi Michael,  Welcome to the group!  Unfortunately, I'm not wondering why our winter has been so mild, it seems pretty obvious.

Hello everyone, 15 miles west of Boston here. Glad to have found this group! Best of luck this winter, it has been great so far. I just hate wondering why... :D

Power came on today (eight days out). Lost the outdoor setup. Indoor one is doing ok. Lost some goldfish. Only had basil, lettuce planted, and peppers as starts. Basil faired the best, which surprised me, figured the lettuce would be the only thing going since my basement was around 40F all week w/o heat. Fish tank served double duty as non-potable water source for me.

We got our power back on Thursday night...Internet came back today.  We are lucky, there are many in in CT that are still without power.  We ran a generator all week so the fish are OK.  Oh yes, the family is fine too.  ;-)

I was nervous without power for twenty hours. I have four tropical tanks loaded with fish. They got to the almost in trouble point but no fish died. My aquaponic system is cold hardy fish so no worries there.

No sorry, I was lucky enough to be told the day of his speaking. And I couldn't miss the chance to see him.

Jonathan,

Do you know if Will Allen had any other dates around NE he was going to speak at?

We will fight and rise against food oppressors!!! Why because we can!

I can't believe I missed him!  I didn't even hear about it and I live in the Seacoast area of NH.  You are so right about Big Ag.  They see us local people getting a slightly bigger piece of the pie, still just a sliver, and they get their bought and paid for politicians to regulate the small growers to death.
