Hello all. I'm new to aquaponics and the forums here. I'm not new to the aquarium hobby, or gardening, but am excited about putting the 2 together. I have watched loads of YouTube vids and read countless hours of info off the net. I have recently put together a small starter system that has been cycled for a little over 2 weeks now, and is ready to add more fish. If anyone in the Jacksonville/North East region has too many tilapia and need to get rid of some let me know...
Hello,
i'm just getting cycled up in Oceanside Ca. looking for cat fish, tilapia, perch to finish my system. I have 550 gal fish tank ( #2 ibc's ) 300 gal sump 660 gal dwc 100 sqft media & #12- 5' high vert towers
thanks Brad
the raft bed only provides the surface area of the "box" and the bottom of the rafts.. media beds, provide much more surface area.. i wouldn't really consider the wicking beds as filtration unless they were "flow through"
to grow that many fish, i would turn the raft into a media bed..
and probably add at least some mechanical filtraion - tilapia are pretty sloppy fish
Jamie I have 40 + fingerlings you can have to get you started. I believe that will be enough for your system for now.
jamie,, you may want to reconsider your stocking density.. with only 200 gallons of media (growbeds) you should stock to grow 50lbs of fish (get 50 fingerlings to grow out to 1lb each)
