I had tomatoes and peppers outside... frozen.. I have new plants inside showing stress due to the lack of sun for the last week. I noticed today, tomatoes and peppers with flowers.I have pineapples and other fruits outside tonight

inside my greenhouse, I have insulation on all walls. on sunny days and warm nights, I pull the southern insulation up onto the northern side

I am experimenting to find what works. I tried 3 different bok choi, but only two of each. spacing .. I use PVC containers. It is easy to move plants when they are in containers. I have gone to 4" pipe 6"deep with a cap. I did experiment with 22" deep containers for some trees. I used these in a 100 gal rubbermade tank.

Bok Choi is one plant I have never grown. The cold sucks but I think most of my dirt plants survived. I cant believe I have 30+ tomatoes ready to become red in December?! I havent experienced that before. Sounds like I need to see your operation after the holidays too. My main system is close but still needs a few bells built and my heater installed. What are your thoughts on using black soldier fly larvae for fish food?

I have never seen gardening easier than aquaponic systems. I am experimenting with a variety of plants.. it took me about 6 months to get papaya to start to fruit. this is in the full sun in tucson. my pineapples did not do good, but that maybe because of the plants blocking the sun. currently, I have 30 date palms in a growbed above my breeding tank. Okra, bok choi ( now I am growing my own organic seeds), as well as other plants did great. carrots did not do good.

I want to share my experiences with hydroponics, in the beginning I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I got a rubbermaid tub and cut holes in the lid for grow pots. I also used a 250 gph pump going to about ten small 360 degree sprinkler heads to spray the solution to the plant roots. Things were going good for the first month but then I realized every two weeks I have to do a solution change. I couldn't figure out what to do with the five gallon used hydroponic chemicals. It seemed wasteful, I did try to fertilize plants in the ground but didnt see any change.

Recently I changed to a much better solution, I found Alaska brand fish emulsion! My plants are still looking great with this natural liquid plus I know it will be easy to get rid of. All you hard core aquaponics people out there may think this way is a waste of time but it is good to use for temporary purposes.
