This is an open group started for the tinkerers in this community.  I picked the Wright Flyer as the icon because, as we all know, the first sustained power flight for heavier than air flying machines was achieved by...................two bicycle mechanics.  I lift my hat to people like these, who have a great idea and stick to it.  I think there are many more such breakthroughs waiting in aquaponics, and for those that like to scratch under the surface, make their own components or critically evaluate aspects of aquaponic theory and practice, this open group may well be a great place to share ideas and discuss concepts without fear of ridicule or repremand.

Sand as a medium in a flood and drain bed?

Started by Kobus Jooste. Last reply by TCLynx Nov 10, 2012. 31 Replies

I have taken an interest in using sand as a media in one of my grow beds again.  Only thing is that my beds cycle permanently on flood and drain auto siphons.  I am worried that the sand will pose a…Continue

I'm curious to know how people deal with criticism of the welfare of their fish.  I have an indoor and outdoor system and I make sure my fish are well cared for and I really keep a low stocking…Continue

It has been a while since I added something here.  The mixed aquaponics page got dibs on the sand bed experiment (which is going great!!) and I have been immersed in fisheries and aquaculture…Continue

If anyone here is in Maryland, I just created a group Maryland Aquaponics for open discussion about the difficulties specific to our area. Please join me and lets talk aquaponics.

I agree!  I just rooted around in the Ning Creators site (the community for community leaders) and there are several active topics right now complaining about how poorly NIng handles search, and data management in general.  I added my voice to the chorus and hopefully the developers hear us.

The search function is a bit "word correct" i find and needs to be general with more suggestions/topics.

Rebecca - it looks like the search function migrated a bit and you are correct - it is not all that obvious at all.  If you go to the forum, groups or blogs pages, there is a little search window near the top of the page.

IS there a way to do a search? There used to be, but I haven't been able lately to locate a mean to do searches....

Alfred - it is not as much linking docs as it is pouring through what has already been written here and re-posting it in logical order, with key words.  It seems as if no one searches before adding a discussion in the open forums - just see the same stuff recycled over and over.  I would love to be able to have an end result that is far less cluttered in here.

Link to Dropbox http://db.tt/dNcJafh     to get a free box, up to 2 GB  ,  IF this is the solution.  Many ways to store for free and share information.

For all in the group.  My initial idea was to start summarizing all the knowledge in this forum in an organised fashion on this group board, but work is pinning me down.  Anyone with an idea or discussion topic is free to go ahead and start it up if they want to - I see it is only me starting discussions right now.  If settings have to change for this to be possible, please let me know.

Ends up they wanted my first born child for the privilege of using box.net.  I've got a couple inquiries out at Ning, and am still considering the Dropbox idea.  My apologies as well for not moving faster on this - I'm a bit slammed as well.
