Sylvia has confirmed that, since we are basically this tiny little outpost in the middle of nowhere, we can tell each other about locally sourced stuff we would recommend to others.

My first product of choice is EZI Systems.  Based in Port Elizabeth, they supply high quality modular steel tube components to manufacture almost anything you can think of in terms of frames, shelves or racking.  Everything is chrome, powder coated or galvinized thus fully outdoor stuff.  My mixed system is built around a EZI frame and carrier set-up and is very easy to modify.

If you think that they can help with your structural requirements (I have 4 x 250 L media beds resting on their product for over 3 years) take a look at www.ezisystems.co.za

Another place worth checking out is Cape Composite (also PE). They have an interest in aquaculture products and the rain water tanks pictured below, when cut in half and fitted with a pvc bottom drain, makes very good 500 liter and 2500 liter round tanks.

They also make the grow beds I use (my design and mold thus I can have more made up if anyone is interested)

Howsit Kobus,

I am very happy to have come across this post of yours. Are all the tanks they manufacture round, or do they have rectangular tanks too?

Mark - typically the tanks are all round.  I have had custom rectangular grow beds made there (of which I still own the pattern) but not the square tank option.  I have actually grown to appreciate the benifits of a round tank though, using one in my larger research system.  Perhaps you can contact Adrian at Cape Composite and find out if they do square tanks or rectangular ones now - they are forever adding products, but most people in aquaculture go for round ones I think.
Just a note on the components of an Ezi system.  These guys cater for large auto / manufacturing consumers and are potentially used to big orders.  They use a non-standard pipe (outer diameter between 27.7 and 28 mm) that is either powder coated or galvanised.  They are the only guys to sell these systems that I have dealt with, but a friend of mine recently got a quote from a competitor thsat was equally steep.  A cheaper (heavier but stronger) pipe to use is 3/4 inch galvanised air line (8 bar I think).  You can also make a lot of the connections with the threaded connectors used with the air line.

Hey all,

Does anyone have a good supplier in SA for tilapia fingerlings and fish feed?
