The Butte County Farm Bureau (BCFB)and the California State University, Chico College of Agriculture are pleased to present Will Allen as guest lecturer and keynote speaker for the Farm Bureau’s Annual Dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the CSU, Chico Bell Memorial Union.
Will Allen, son of a sharecropper, former professional basketball player, ex-corporate sales leader and now farmer, is the founder and CEO of Growing Power Inc., a farm and community food center in Milwaukee, Wis. Allen is widely considered the leading authority in the expanding field of urban agriculture. At Growing Power and in community food projects across the nation and around the world, Allen promotes the belief that all people, regardless of their economic circumstances, should have access to fresh, safe, affordable and nutritious foods at all times. In May of 2012, Allen added author to his résumé with the release of his book, “The Good Food Revolution,” the story of his personal journey, the lives he has touched and a grassroots movement that is changing the way our nation eats. Allen will present an open lecture in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7, followed by a book signing at 11 a.m. There is no charge to attend the lecture, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The BCFB Annual Dinner begins with a no-host social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and a program at 8 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person for members and $75 per person for nonmembers and can be purchased by calling the BCFB office at 530-533-1473. Reservations are encouraged, as the event does sell out quickly.
