Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi all, my wife is a 5/6th grade teacher. I set up a Back to the Roots Aqua Farm for her class of thirteen. We have gone through several lessons on the aquaponic cycle, and sustainability. The class has been enthusiastic about their little garden but would like to see a larger system in action. Does anyone have or know of a facility that is Sacramento adjacent which could and would accommodate a field trip?

Any help would be appreciated. Remember, it is for the kids.

Hi Schaefer,

Do you know about Pierre Beauchamp at del Oro High school in Loomis? He's got a fabulous Aquaponics system in an old ag greenhouse, is teaching students all phases of theory, and supplying the cafeteria with high quality produce. Check it out!

I have a system that is inside a 30x12 foot greenhouse, with a 550 gal. tank full of tilapia. I'm in Nevada City, CA.

Thank you Dee,

I will certainly look in to that. We are located in Northern Roseville, that would be perfect.

Hi Schaefer,

Here is an email for Pierre:

deloroaquaponics@gmail.com

Pierre is a senior, but he has two younger sisters who are planning to keep the project going once he heads off to college. They are actually designing and proto-type building some "patio" sized aquaponics systems for folks. Please keep in touch about how you are doing with the children. One of my dreams is to introduce aquaponics into the schools here in Nevada County. We have a very strong organic farming community.

Dee
