A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

There seems to be a debate brewing over at the Wolf household.  It's great that you can grow them.  Now can you sell them?  I think it would an easy sell, but who has ever processed these buggers and what kind of yields do you get from them?  Anyone have any info. on this?

Well there are many avenues for the Red Claw.

1. As food. Sold live like lobsters with a similar price of 9-10 dollars a pound. They get to be about a pound in 2 years. But are normally sold at 1/4 lb. So basically 4/lb.

2. Sold as stock. They are pretty prolific so you can sell them as stock to other growers.

3. Sold as pets. Red Claw's go for around 12-20 dollars each in the pet trade.

I like the idea of selling live to restaurants, but I am not sold that is long term solution.  I think ultimately you would have to consider selling the tails.  That being said, if you find the right customer, might not have to go that route.  Pets idea is obviously the best if you don't have to play middle man between the pet store and final consumer.  Higher profit margins there.  Anyone else have ideas?  Growing the critters is one thing, marketing and selling them is another.
