Whats the best way to start seedlings?

So far ive used:
Peat pots: meh
Sown straight into cinder: sometimes works but depends on sun, temp, and rain and type of seed

I hear vermicompost blocks work well but havent tried it yet.

It seems my green thumb isnt that green yet. Sometimes my seedlings get drowned out by heavy rains or excessive sun. Sometimes I transplant too early.

What I want to know is how do I get some seeds of those 'Passion Fruit" that you are successfully growing :-)

I didnt see the forums link at all  =p

Are passion fruit available anywhere in your area?  Specialty markets, etc?  The seeds grow easily if you can find just one, eat the pump and then plant the seeds  =)

Unfortunately Hawaii law prohibits shipping seeds

I have what I believe to be a typical passion fruit vine that I bought here in South Africa (not sure how it will compare with international variants).  I planted a seedling on the 2nd of October last year, and it is bearing fruit now.  Thus I'm sure that you could say small seedling to setting fruit in at most 4 months.  Not sure how long it would have taken to grow that seedling.

sorry about my reply, it appears it couldnt be more 'capt obvious' and wasnt meant to be so, lol.

i meant that i took one of my lilkoi and planted the seeds after eating the pulp, and they sprouted.   but to agree with kobus, i bought my seedling (regular yellow type) and within months it was fruiting.
