Where are you ordering your fingerlings from?

Im going to need to order my first batch of fish in about a month. Im am growing to grow tilapia. Where have yall been ordering your fish from? Im interested to see the sources out there; it doesnt have to be just tilapia, it can be any type of fish.

How many fish are you looking to get? We order from two different sources. One is Americulture and the other is Til-Tek. With both of these companies we order by weight (we generally get between 1000 and 1200 fry per order). The fish are sent up in two bags inside a box then sent Overnight UPS (or whomever) and we pick up at our closest UPS warehouse.

O yeah i should of specified how many fish im looking for. I am only looking to get tiny amount right now like 50 fish, but i am interested to hear where people are buying bigger quantities too, for the future.

I found smaller scale tilapia orders at Tilapia Source. http://tilapiasource.com/zc/

They are out of KC Mizzou and you can order based on the size and quantity. I ordered fish food from there already and it seems good quality.

Good suggestion Logical. I think Tilapia Source is where ill get them from if i get mixed sex fish. I was trying to find hybrid males (non-hormone) for a small order, but im having trouble finding any. Not only are the hybrids mostly male, they have hybrid-vigor which is the shit for any organism. There is this one in WI about 2 hours from me, but last time i called they didnt have any fish. I will try them again l8r this week or next week. I dont mind getting get mixed sex tilapia, but id like to get more info on how to prevent them from breeding first.

Yeah, I bet it will be tough finding all males, finding a way to separate them or have them not breed will probably be easier. I will still keep an eye out though

Yeah, i will prolly have to go with mixed sex. All males just yield 1/4 more than mixed sex from what ive read, but oh well. I would like to find small quantities of the strains ND-21 or ND-41. Those seem ideal for my situation. Ill have to do more asking around, ill prolly ask in the tilapia group if ne 1 uses those either of those 2 strains. But im not gona get to bent outta shape over it.

Yeah I'll have to check in those. If try are too expensive then I will just go to the creek when it gets Warner and try to catch some. I'm hoping to diversify my tank and little and Chi Ma showed some crayfish "condos" that allowed them to be more docile and fit more in a tank so I might give it a try.
