I enjoyed this. Do you think one of these would be possible in a Michigan backyard? I struggle with the idea because I don't see how fish would ever grow to edible size in one growing season here in the land of possible 0 degree weather. A greenhouse is out of the question in my neighborhood. If I could have a greenhouse it would be a no brainer. I can only expect that the fish would have to come inside during the winter and then maybe they would grow to edible size by the end of the second outdoor season?
I can't say, My tanks are 3000 gal each. I do not expect to eat the fish, I am only raising them for the fertilization effect. But your question is intriguing, and I do believe I will have to consider the possibilities. I have a friend that raised fish for 20y and he would have the answers to whether or not they will last or not. I do know that people that have ponds for Koi they go into a state of hibernation during cold weather. So I would believe that Bluegill and Perch do the same. My township will allow the greenhouse but my neighbors have had about enough all they do is complain.
