Where to Get Stuff on Maui

Started by Larry Yonashiro. Last reply by gruvymann Dec 18, 2013. 22 Replies

Just starting out, the biggest problem was finding out where to buy the parts needed to construct an aquaponics system on Maui.  Of course, ordering online is always an option, but the shipping cost…Continue

I was wondering if anybody on Maui has been having the same problem as I'm having here. I just lost an entire crop of cucumbers, pumpkins, and gourds this week. I have been told it is fruit flies…Continue

Checked on barrels MSDS with Larry everthing looks good, the soap is a concentrate it needs to be washed carefully, barrel is HDPE 2.

Jen - I'll let you know when hopefully soon. Do you know how many you need now? PM me
Jim - give me a count also so I can coordinate. PM me too.
Hopefully this works out and everyone can benefit from this. Barrels look solid and new. Aloha. :D

I really need some 55 gallon barrels; would REALLY appreciate being put on the list!  thanks!

I can wait on 55 gallon too, if someone else needs right away. I have a couple 15 gallon if someone wants to trade for 55 gallon or need a couple to get going.

Aloha Robert.  Thanks for posting this. I am also interested in getting some barrels.   Please put my name on the list.  No rush if someone has a more urgent need.  I can wait.  Mahalo.

I am interested some barrels. Just came in from work on a new system that will be a plastic drum and some vertical "strawberry towers". I get nervous about cutting my drums. Spent this morning washing mine out and they cleaned up nicely. :D

I just talked to a contact who has free 55 gal white drums used for bio detergents. She has none right now but usually has about three per week that will be available. I will take three soon and if anyone is interested let me know here. If you are concern about toxicity from my understanding wash with soap and rinse with vinegar. Aloha.

Aquaponic Coop.  This customer needs organic watercress and organic escarole on a weekly basis.  Can anyone out there supply these items?  Steady income for you...

Hi Larry and Patty:

We just talked on the phone and I am following up with this e-mail.

I do a lot of juicing each day and the green juice that I make (10 per day) requires organic watercress and escarole that I am never able to find on the island.

I usually shop at Mana and Whole foods a couple of times per week and would be able to stop by and pick up my order each week.

I estimate that I will need 1/2 pound of organic watercress and 7 heads of organic escarole each and every week.

Please let me know when you can start providing these...

Mahalo,
Ron Wolak

I'm planting arugula & lettuce in my new float beds, put in some okra and zuccini in my cinder beds. I had a question on my plumbing and grabbed Sylvia's Aquaponic Gardening book I just got yesterday. Maybe it was the cool Wailuku wind, but I got chicken skin reading page 62. Guess you'll have to get the book to know why. :D

Aloha Raychel,
I'm game. Ihave the same feelings about affordable systems. I would love a bigger one, but just the one's I've done are tough on a disability income.
Glenn and Natalie are great. They are very knowledgable and open to sharing.
I think about demo systems for all sorts of events coming up. Next week is my old grade school's Haiku Ho'olaulea and it would be cool to put up my aquarium sized system. I am looking to add some vertical and horizontal pipe planters to go with the flow beds and cinder beds. Just need to get to ball rolling with enough people. I can get membership going.
Just got Sylvia's book aquaponic gardening in today. I can relate to all the addictions. Spending nights observing my fish. They all know me now. Want to order her new fish food next. I'll have to put groceries on hold for fish food. ;-)
