Am I correct that you are saying the top 8" cap, that holds a 2' threaded fill plug is missing?  Or which of the two are gone if not both?  Below in the front of the tote is supposed to be a gate valve.  Is the whole gate valve missing or just a portion of it?  If possible could you post picks on your personal page.  We will be more able to help you if we can actually view your problems.  I am building a 16-unit IBC system so I am quite familiar with the configurations of the IBC tote.

I am quite sure thaat you will not be able to purchase these parts from the DIY stores as these are speciality parts.  Although, if you want to make grow beds out of this tote.  Cut off the sides of the tote to the hight you want and also the corrisponding cage.  This will leave you with only the bottom and two sides of the cage to support the grow beds so you will have to construct the remainding two sides.

Maybe TC links can be of help as she has done quite a few IBC totes in her system so she may have some ideas for you.

Yes both, top fill is ^inch and the other is 2 inch

Not all IBC's are the same.  I've had some where I could use a 2" threaded cap like for 2" PVC pipe to cap off the valve at the bottom (in case the valve didn't seal properly but other IBC's the threads are different and the 2" PVC cap won't fit.

As for the top fill cap, again, there are a few different IBC types so finding a cap might be tricky.  You might be better off following Leo's advice of cutting in roughly in half (either side of the missing caps/fittings) and making it into two grow beds.

With the big pool, you really need lots more grow beds and you don't need another fish tank.

As this is the case, it is best to cut them in half through the "valve" area straight through the top hole.  After removing the bottom pallet of course.  You will see that the bottom is the only side that has no support and one side with the brace bar on the oppisite.  With this much depth IMHO, you will still need to brace both.  You can probably get by using electrical conduit for the braces.  Look at the braces that are on the top and try to copy these.

Aubrey-

If I'm correct the pump cited below is the pump you will be using.  I don't know exactly how many totes and barrels you are using in your system so, it is a bit difficult to answer your question.  I would say, check it out with the amount of GBs you are handling at the moment and determine if the water inflow is sufficient to handle more GBs.  Do you have any ball valves located on your inflow pipes and are they full open or half closed?  Are your GBs filling adiquatley or are they just making the water inflow to start the siphons?

If the "valves" are set at one half then you should be OK.

I expect the pump should be plenty but you will need extra filtration if you are planning to raise more fish than your grow beds can support.  Until you have the additional solids removal and bio-filter hooked up, only stock as many fish as your grow beds can support.  With a new system that is about 1 fish per cubic foot of gravel bed or about 1 fish per 7.5 gallons of grow bed.  Once the system is mature and you are experienced at fish keeping then you can figure out how many more fish than that your system will support but with a new system, if you put huge amounts of fish in it today and only have enough grow bed set up for a small number of fish and the bio-filter bacteria are not well established yet, you will likely wind up with a huge ammonia spike killing all your fish.

I have some extra top caps.  Your challenge is going to be the bottom valve.  It attaches by way of a threaded collar.  I have never seen them except on an IBC.  You sure that this is a food grade IBC?

Anyway, email me at ''icon at iconnetwork dot org'' if you decide to go with this IBC and need a cap .
