I would like to begin a small winter project, to start to learn. I have a used water tank that I have seen people cut in half and use half for bed, and half for fish tank. Do you know of some good reading material to help with starting a first time project, do it your self style?

Daughter had surgery today so I have been somewhat uncommunicative.(went well and she is resting post op now)
Trying to get the husband to understand ebb and flow and why I am wanting to do this crazy thing. So now I have to look at it as to make it pay for itself. I suppose this is something that happens to everyone trying this eventually!
A quick question to all.. can it be aquaponic if you are starting with potted plants? The eb system isn't together yet, so I am having to wing it here. Watered with the tank water, but not on a drip system yet.

Those little poopers will feed all the plants you can fit in your growbed Bill. Goldfish are great little plant feeders.

How many plants will 4 goldfish support?

OK. 4 goldfish it is.

I don't see why not...

Sylvia,
Yes, that makes sense. I am doing a 20 gallon aquarium to start and will use goldfish. Will this be the same ratio?

Hi Bill. I prefer the easier to understand rule of 1 fish per 5 gallons of water. As the fish grow up the ability of your grow beds to handle the extra waste from the fish increases...and the fish don't actually excrete in proportion to their size and weight. Does that make sense?

What does it mean when it says "add 1/2" of fish for every gallon of water"? Do the fish need to be 1/2" high or long in size? If I had an aquarium 1/2" high should I fill the tank with fish so I can't see the bottom?
