How to get catfish to eat floating food

I finally got my catfish (2-3 inch) on Monday. They were eating the first day and continue to eat but only on the bottom. I ground-up some floating food and it sinks to the bottom.

How do you get them to eat floating food?

The catfish will get hungry sooner or later and will come to the surface. The reason to have floating food is to gauge how much the fish are eating. Feed sparingly every other day until you start seeing them come to the surface.
