I have since last Wed gotten a Nitrite spike, rising from less than .15 ppm to 3 ppm. I think it may be due to over feeding, although I don't find much food residue on the bottom of the tank. Not sure how the spike is being created......... I am losing 1 to 3 fish a day form what I guess is Brown Blood disease. I have stopped feeding, last feeding being this past TUesday. Nitrite levels still running around 3 ppm. Anyone have any ideas how to reduce nitrite levels quickly? Or what…

I am looking at restocking my fish tank with 3-5 inch fingerlings but do not want to be feeding the larger fish in there. I caught a half dozen out yesterday and put them into one of my DWC growbeds (works like a live-well). Some were a full foot long or better while others only10 inches or so. No idea on how much they weigh.

Last winter and again this winter my catfish stop eating almost completely. Last winter I lost about 6-8 due to starvation as far as I can tell. this winter I just lost my second catfish. Most of the food goes uneaten and lays on the bottom until I remove it. I do not heat the water and at times it will be 45 degrees.

Is this typical for catfish?

Well, it was time to harvest. My son and his 5 children were here on Sunday. My catfish are a little over 1 year old and we harvested 7 cats.

I put them in a drum with fresh water for about 15 mins and they were very good. I was very surprised at how white the meat was and lite and clean tasting they were.

Aquaponics surprised me again.

I was also suspicious of the blueish meds that were in the water from the suppler. He said they'd be safe for my biofilter, but seeing the blue my thoughts turned immediately to copper. Yeah it might have been something safe, but I transferred them into the tank by net instead of dumping them in with their water.

I added 3-5 inch fingerlings to my fish tank 2 days ago. I have not seen a single catfish since, alive or dead.

When I feed, the minnows are actively eating. My question is this...do young catfish tend to be shy and stay towards the bottom waiting for the food to fall, or are they likely still stressed?

I had about 100 cats and 25 goldfish in a 1000 gallon pool.

This winter I have lost about 20 catfish of all sizes, over several months. My water temp got down to the high 40 degrees at times. They all looked healthy but rather thin.

The goldfish however are like little fat cows in the tank.

In the beginning I would remove all uneaten food from the tank as I have read. Now I leave the food for a while and it seems to go away. This seemed to stop the…

Question:

the gold fish all look like they are ready to bust, could they be eating all food?

Is this a bad mix of fish?
