I was wondering if anyone knew of a supplier for tilapia or trout fry in BC Canada?

Hi Crystal,
I'm in Saanich (Victoria) and I haven't looked for a trout supplier in B.C. yet, let alone started a system build, but as a first step I wanted to make sure I knew what permits I needed. Here is a link for the Rainbow Trout Pond Permit application:

You may already have covered this base but I thought I would post it for everyone.
I've found that the reputable aquarium shops will sell you tilapia fry, you usually just have to make a special order. For those of you near Victoria, 'Creatures' pet store on Blanshard can order them in for you.
Another option is to get Koi. There is a farm/hatchery out near Prospect Lake that is awesome, called West Coast Koi Farm. They are also a good source for ethical goldfish/shebunkins.
There's a family run trout farm out in Sooke, called Mountain Valley Trout Farm, which currently have 7" fingerlings for $1.10. I've never bought anything from them, but they seem pretty awesome.
Got mine from Jodi and Jeffery at the Backyard Bounty Collective, http://www.backyardbountycollective.com/aquaponics.html
They refered me to a friend of theirs, David, based in Burnaby, who sold me 50 fry for $50.00 last December
David Kwok <davidkwok66@gmail.com>;
Here is his aquarium:

His fry/ My fry are cross breed, ND21 strain and "red"

Hope this helps.

Claude, I too got 100 fry from David in Burnaby a couple months ago. They're growing like crazy.
I brought two Tilapia back from Seattle in the fall. They just turned out a couple hundred fry this last weekend.
I have more than i need. I'm planning on pairing select fish from the two colonies for breeding pairs.
Resulting Tilapia should end up 50% Blue Nile, 25% Red, 25% Albino. They'll also have dual citizenship... 50%US 50%Canadian :)
My logic says it should make for good genetics, or maybe paranoid skitzo frankenfish, time will tell.
Hi Darrin,
I am interested in some fry if you've still got some to sell. Can you message me to discuss?
Thanks,
Mark

Hello,
I know this is a 3 year thread....but am new here and will soon start building my system. Am trying to source Tilapia fingerlings in Vancouver or anywhere in the lower Mainland. Need about 30 to start. I've contacted someone listed above but he's out of the game.
Thanks for the help.
Jeffrey
