California Aquaponics

Had the great pleasure of meeting a fellow CA Aquapon, Andy from Santa Barbara. Got me to thinking we shouldn't be left out. There is a Florida and Colorado group so there has to be one from CA. Besides we can share links, ideas and suppliers

Due to travel and many other problems, I must let my system go. Anyone who has a pick up truck can contact me and have my whole system for free. The system is the same as the Friendly aquaponics raft system in Hawaii. I have one 340 gal insulated fish tank with 1"-5" Tilapia that are doing well. One 8'x2'x12" deep insulated trough, blue board rafts, net pots, seed trays, seeds, testing equip, piping, air pump, water punp, and lots of reference material. Please give me a call if you are serious about having a great system for free which cost me well over $1000 to build. Thanks Andy 805-570-3954

Hi everyone,
I think I may be the only one in Nor-Cal.
If you know of anyone else up here doing aqua, please get in touch with me.
fishman@growitright.net.
BTW no Tilapia up here, I am looking for good sources for sunfish. Thanks a lot

Hi.. I'm in SoCal - LA region, and at the research stage of aquaponics. Currently don't have much room for a system, but would like to start with an aquarium. So... am looking for buddies to learn with in my area. Any LA folks here? If so call me at 310-827-2510 .

Welcome Andrea! I hear ya on building the real. Sure wish I knew then what I know now, it would have made a huge difference on how I built my original system. Waiting for it to cool down so I can do the re-design! Think I am even going to see about buying some of Nate's towers or make my own version since funds are a little short.

Hello, all! I'm in SoCal in the IE and just built my proof-of-concept 2 months ago. I'm really enjoying the learning experience, and can't wait to build my "real" system (probably in about a year).

Glad to have you join us Amy! I have a bunch of large goldfish mixed in with a few Tilapia. Let me know how your doing with the prawn!

Located in Cotati, CA (hour above San Francisco) and have a daughter in San Diego, who is also into aquaponics. Now if I can get my sister involved, in Oakhurst, nr Yosemite, we should have the state somewhat covered!

We built a "proof of concept" system a couple years ago, which surprisingly, worked well. We had to move, are now settled in, and beginning to plan our new system. Hoping to raise catfish, prawn, and redclaw (someday). Our test system just used goldfish, and those suckers got HUGE.

Looking forward to the pictures! I was really impressed with their operation and with Oscar. I didn't realize it, but he is a friend of the lady that we bought our aquarium from. I realized that while you were hooking up your aerator. This makes me want to do it commercially even more! I would have loved to open those HUGE Biofilters up wouldn't you? Did you get pics of those monsters?

Well anyway, it was a pleasure meeting you and your more than welcome back anytime. Loved the pics of Chris's place in HI. WOW, he has it wired!

Since we are in the new CA room that is for networking, is there any chance I can get the name of that company in Chino that you bought that Blue Board from? I want to give that a whirl!
Jeff
