arduino's have a future in aquaponics in my mind.  Not many people talking about their use of arduino's and aquaponics.  Windowfarm groups are much more active with arduino's and control of systems. …Continue

Hope this isn't repetitive, but our local maker/hacker spaces has an assortment of people that love to play with aquaponics, arduino and this site could point to one in your area.

That looks really sweet John!

@Rik

I'm more than happy to publish the sketch, but I'm not sure that it's something that I would recommend anyone follow as an example.   I'm a DOS/Windows C/C++ programmer from way back, but am not yet very familiar/comfortable with the limitations that an embedded processor imposes.

I did a fair amount of research on timers in Arduino but still don't have a good handle on how they work, so I rolled my own...   I also blatantly ripped off code from various sections of the Arduino universe, so I can't take much of the credit.

Also I was under a time crunch to get this job done.

All this to say that the code is clumsy, ugly, hard-to-read and not-optimized.

Help yourself... UBill_Timer_v7.ino

John - nice work on your timer.  Are you going to do an "INSTRUCTABLE" on it?  It would be helpful to see all your work so others could build off of it.  Are you going to publish your sketch?  I would like to see how you handled the timer function.  I have some that I have been playing with for my larger units, but have had a few problems on longer run times.  May you could take a look at it?

Thanks for the great work.....   rik

William - as for your question John's set-up will work for you.  The question becomes how much control are you looking for.  John's solution would be a great project to start with.  Of course you would need some help from him for working parts an the arduino sketch..  The second part is the harder to do.  If you want 24 hour time clock function with many set points and sensor inputs that will take some additional work to figure out.  That is why this forum is so important for all of us.  We all can see what others are doing and build off each others work and help each other out on the things we do not understand at this point in our learning.

I have found these to be a great products - http://www.growopltd.com/chrono-c1-combination-recycling-and-lighti... and http://www.growopltd.com/chrono-r4-multi-function-recycling-timer/

Monster Gardens has them for a pretty good deal.

These units also have important approvals for insurance purposes, if that's important to you.

Wow John that's really nice!

@William

I've just finished my first Arduino project.   It was a simple timer that I built for my uncle who wanted to turn on a relay for 10 seconds every 10 minutes.   He couldn't find an inexpensive one, so I built it!  (He probably could have bought one for the money I spent on the project, but that's not the point...)

I couldn't resist making it more useful than he asked so I added three buttons so that the interval and duration could be set to the users preference, and while I was at it I put two different relays in the one box so that he could control two separate devices if he wanted.

Here's the finished product.

is it possible to have arduino to control pumps on a timer and an aerator ?
