Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I saw this same question asked elsewhere, but it was from 2012. I am looking for maybe a more updated answer. I 'm not looking for a large quantity. Maybe 10 to 15. Any suggestions?

I found them at Brite Ideas in Austin, TX

I have bought mine from fishkiss.com. Only order MOZAMBIQUE'S!!!! Otherwise the state of texas will be up your ass!!!! The other Tilapa's can live here in the waterways. AND require an exotic animal license. Mozambique's cannot live below about 55 degrees so they are exempt because of the temperature that they can survive at. BTW each fish that you have that is on the do not have list without a license is a 2500.00 fine. Enjoy the Texas extortionists.......  Don't take this as the word of god go read the Texas laws for yourself.

in tx you can raise mozambiques without a permit, HOWEVER, you must buy them from a Texas source AND get a copy of their permit. Also, you can only give away gutted or de-headed fish. you may not give away or sell live fish.  With a permit of your own, you can purchase from out of state as well as keep moz, nile, or blue only(no other...e.g. hornorum). try overton's in buffalo,tx or larrys fish farm in giddings, tx. i havent purchased from either, but they have good reputations.

hope this helps,

martin

I have purchased from Overton both the Mozambique and blue cats. They are knowledgeable and also grow stuff in their own aquaponics system and various water features they have scattered on site. Just built a greenhouse last year that was not up and going yet when I got my fish. I raised both tilapia and blue cats last year, but due to my stupid lost most of the cats as system was not yet cycled enough when I put them in. The tilapia did really well and grew pretty good. Only lost a couple early on due to water condition. Did lose what were left (4 or 5) when we got a really cold spell here in Texas that brought water temps down too low. I have since added heaters to tanks. I am getting ready to buy some more cats as soon as get my new fish tank on line.
