Water Heater Question?

Has anyone used a hot water tank heating element and a Ranco digital thermostat to heat their fish tank, if how did it work. I am trying to find the best way to heat my 300 gallon tank. Open for suggestions

Here is an idea to heat the water solar   just use the box and pipe through it during winter as I would not use it as I am in Florida. Then during summer if you built whole thing would have a food dehydrator.

Just make sure you use a stainless steel water heater element.
