Waiting on timer

Hello,

 

 Im waiting on my timer to arrive.  do I need my system running 24/7 Or can I start the cycle process by just running a few times a day by plugging it up and unplugging it, or should I wait for my timer?

You can let it run just fine. Maybe once a day turn off the pump and let the media beds/whatever drain and breath a bit. Some people run their systems as constant flood all the time if they have proper flow and aeration. That's how almost all aquariums filters operate and they run just fine.
