Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I live in New York and have called several hatcheries in NY , however, they will not ship trout. I am breaking in my Aquaponic system in doors for the winter and would like to try raising trout(rainbow). If someone has some information I would appreciate it. Thanks

hi, you can try
hickling fish farm
143 Hickling Rd, Edmeston, NY 13335
they have rainbows .
also

I haven't purchased from either yet still in planning stage

After trying trout from sam's club, I want to try them as well.  Best fish I ever had.

Starting my first system with bullhead as they sounded easier.  I think if that is successful I will have to go with trout too.

I am in Rochester NY.  Also going to be doing the long drive to the smith creek farm around May when the fish are available.

Hi Matt, I did a little more research and what I found it that it will take around 2 years to grow the trout to a harvesting size. If you have any information on this I would appreciate it. Thanks  Joe

hmm, I heard some people getting fingerlings in fall, then harvesting the followingspring, as they need cold water and are in warmer states.  Granted, they wiull be smaller than full size.

Matt - I am in Fairport - did you try the hatchery at Powder Mills Park? If you have your system up, do you think maybe I can have a look?
