To pea or not to pea

Hello,

Is it necessary to put pea gravel in the fish tanks.  I have a 275 tank and nine half 55g grow beds.  If I didn't have to put pea gravel in the fish tank I would not have to add a sump.   Thanks

If you put gravel in the fish tank, where would the fish live. There is no need for rocks in the fish tank.

Hi Andrew,

Gravel in the FT or sump is a no. Maybe you're thinking of aquariums? The Fish waste will buildup in gravel and create anaerobic bacteria which is not good for Aquaponics

Well  I had a friend do that years ago I guess for extra bacteria growth he obviously didn't fill the whole tank with gravel.  Thanks so much for the response that is good news for me.  Now I will not need a sump.
