Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Good day all, New here!

My bride gave me the thumbs up on a aquaponic system if I could do without spending "a lot" of money. So I wanted to see what the community thought of my idea.

I have a above ground pool that we turned into a garden last year. Did fairly well since we had a critter (except horses) free area. After studying aquaponics with my son we decided to repurpose the pool/garden. We have a pool pump and sand filter that still works and want to use this as our pump. Design go like this... Fish tank flows out to pool pump from bottom of fish tank, pumps water to a swirl filter or similar, maybe even the existing sand filter, overflows to 5-2' x 3' x 12" GB with bell drains back to fish tank. After the pump there will be a "T" with valves to control water to fish tank and GB's. I believe the pool pump will produce much more water pressure/flow than I will need with these GB's. I like the idea of using the pool pump because if we do well we can expand with this size pump. Thoughts and ideas please.

It has been done on this forum at least twice so you should find some existing info and maybe you can communicate with those who are doing it.

The grow beds will be your filters so you probably won't need a sand filter.

Sounds like a great idea to me.
