A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hey AP'ers,

I'm wondering if anyone has any good information about expected yields from a media-based system in a given amount of time, or how long it would take to pay back the system.  I know this will vary widely for each system size.

I'm working on a design for my work-trade and am getting bogged down on numbers (budgeting, yields, returns, ect).  If anyone has any information or could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks, and I apologize if this is posted elsewhere

I paid my backyard system off in 8 months and have saved thousands in the following years. Problem is, this is highly dependent on system design, crop selection and climate.

Unfortunately you're going to need to do a good amount of research and experimentation to come up with any semi hard numbers that actually pan out. My numbers are way off from in ground crop data i find but since I can replicate them year in, year out...I know they are accurate for my location and can use them for number crunching.

I suggest setting up a smaller mock system and experimenting with crops, stocking densities and feeding ratios to get an idea of what's going to work for you. Then it's as easy as scaling up :)
