Hello everyone,
Just wanted to post a little something about starting seeds for my aquaponics system. I've seen the soilcube maker things around but they're a little pricey for me right now so I built my own. I start my seedlings inside the soilpod and when they're about 4"-6" depending, I wash the dirt away revealing a healthy root-mass, perfect for aquaponics. Anyway this is a little video and a few pics to show you what I've been up to.

Hi Edward,
Very good technique on seed starting and i love the video(especially all the way to the end- bloopers), just had me rolling with laughter!
This is a very good description how to acclimate the new-comers ( tilapia fish). Many years ago I used to work in a tropical fish store and we got shipment in as far away as Asia. They would come in baggies filed with oxygen. We would float the baggies for about 15 minutes to get the water-temperature the same and then open the baggies. We would attach a tiny hose, the same size hose you use for air-stones and attach it to the pump and we let trickle water into the baggies until they would fill up. We would time it and it should take another 15-20 minutes.
Now you got the fish used to the temperature and the water-condition. Now it would be time that we released the new-comers into the fish-tanks.
Right now I am reading a lot on the net about aquaponics and I am gathering all the info together, but I am ready to get started to put everything in place.
Could you tell me where to get the tilapia from and how much it would cost to buy them? I live in the eastern USA.

Thank you Harold,
I was watching the video where he was releasing the Tilapia figerlings, but somehow this comment got on "starting the seeding" section.
Any-how thank you. I am new to this forum, is very educating.
with regards Johann.

Hi Johann,
Opps! I think you have the wrong topic for this posting. Please try here http://aquaponicscommunity.com/forum/topics/fish-sources
