Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

hello all I am finishing up a 10x3 wicking bed, I used sand in the reservoir and now need to decide on a soil medium, I actually can't decide if I should use 100% compost like some suggest or go the aquaponic route and use a product like coir or peat moss? I already have a fish pond. Coir is pretty expensive so peat moss might work better for me in DC.  any words of wisdom would be helpful

You might try posting in or checking out Chris Smith's Wicking Bed Growers group http://aquaponicscommunity.com/group/wicking-bed-growers

There's some wonderfully good info there and Chris is always chock-full of crafty ideas.

You might find cultivating  indigenous microorganisms (IMO) beneficial. There's a video series explaining the howtos.
