Do us a favor and keep a log/journal on your progress. Make regular measurements on water chemistry and temperature. I know it is hard to do but we are explorers in this territory of aquaponics. We sorely need to share accurate data and experiences to move forward. And as always Good luck and God bless.

Christine,

Since my IBC water is not crystal clear and I can see only about half way down, how will I know if my tilapia have bred? Is there anything special that I should do to encourage them to breed. I was thinking of putting in a container of sandy Florida soil and elevate it on top of two cement blocks, since I understand that they make their nest in the shallow pond bottom.

Hi Christine! had a batch of babies but they all died because we had a little heat wave and the water temps got to around 100 degrees but the mothers survived and now they are berried again. Those are tough mothers!

Dear Chi,

I just found your wonderful story/experiment and thank you for the information. I look forward as everyone else to how you are doing in the next chapter. I am still in the 'thinking about it' stage of starting an aquaponics set up, so I thought I would look into crayfish/rice/other edible plants set ups (I know the Louisiana farmers do a rice pond/crayfish arrangement). Thank you for all the incredible information you have provided. Catherine.
