Pumps and pea gravel

Hello,

I have a pump that pumps water from the bottom and Im worried that is going to suck up the pea gravel in the pump.  Any advise?

Bottom of what, your tank?  Possibly move the gravel?   Move the pump?  My pump is near the top of my tank, but the intake is on the bottom.

Well Iv have a submersible sump pump which pull water through the bottom  so I wouldn't be able to do any inline plumbing.  I was thinking about setting it on some kind of wire basket or something.  What do you think?

Sure, that should work, either that or simply raise it off the bottom a bit.  

If you have pea gravel in your fish tank, that's a bit unusual.

My tank is bare bottom - gravel is in the grow beds.
