im wondering how big of a pump to use for a 140 gal tank 80 gal total grow beds

Kevin, a general rule of thumb is that you want your pump to be able to cycle through all your system's water in about an hour. So in your case, 220gph would be an idea to shoot for.

A good rule of thumb is to get a pump that will turn over the volume of your tank in one hour.  An Eco plus 396 will do that and give you some head room for lifting you water a few feet. Any extra volume you can divert back to the tank for extra aeration.
