Well digested food doesn't leave much in the way of waste and it readily breaks down, with little long term solid waste remaining. I've considered trying aquamax and just wondered how well it worked in aquaponics. My system has media beds with no other filtering. Thanks.

David said:…

I'm not sure I would know what to look for. Can you provide more details about what I should look for? My RFF is pretty good at separating solids. All I have noticed is fish poo, but I have not looked closely. Other food particles I assumed to be uneaten feed from over feeding. Do you have more information on problems with Aquamax? If so, maybe we should start another discussion. So far Aquamax seems effective both for the fish and plants.
George, I have heard of this but I have not taken action. I don't want to get too many things going at once. I barely keep up with my worms. Luckily they get water from my drip irrigation system and have an ample supply of shredded paper and cardboard to feed on, as I rarely provide kitchen scraps. I'm still trying to develop the habit.

Thanks for the recommendation.

My fish are in an unnatural environment and I'm not concerned with providing them with an exclusively natural diet. They are provided a combination of natural and unnatural foods. I'm content with that arrangement and they have no choice but to live with it. Too, my fish serve merely as a nutrient source for plants, which I eat. Those wild fish are entirely natural, except for the sewage, pesticides, herbicides, misc other chemicals and mercury which humans seem too think are great to pollute with.

My tank fish probably have better quality water than most out in the natural world but feeding them an all natural diet didn't make my priority list. They are fed quality food but not all natural food.
