Permaculture Insect Hotel

Hey all. I've just read about the Insect Hotel, which is used in Permacultural practice. I think it can be usefull for your outdoor AP system, for pollination or as a resource for fish food.

But do they have answers for people who will also fear that such a structure would also provide safe hiding places for less than desirable creatures and rodents?

An average garden could hold over 2,000 different species of insect. With all this diversity of life it is good to know that very few creatures cause significant damage to our prized flowers, fruit and vegetables, the ones that gardeners call pests. Even better, there are many more creatures that help to control the pests. By providing the right habitats you can greatly increase the number of beneficial insects in the garden. Some wild invertebrates, such as bumblebees and solitary bees, are declining in numbers in the wider countryside, so by providing homes you can contribute to their conservation.I think the insect-nature will balance itself and beneficial insects are always in majority if they have a right place to live. I will surely give no guarantee :D but it might can help fight problems like mosquito and for sure it can help for pollination.

I especially like the bamboo holes.  If bees lay in them one wouldn't have to drill all those holes in wood.

:)  kinda like aquaponics, enough diversity of good microbes tends to help control the bad ones.

Insects will look for the most comfortable place to live, so Backyard APs, will obviously offer them the best place to live in your garden. Not all are beneficial and become a pest, but if you provide them am more comfortable home, they will move in this hotel, might leave your system alone. Only the benefitial insect will survive and are in majority, so it might help you.

Good idea but a bit too artificial and foo foo for my taste. I simply keep a few piles of sticks and leaves around after raking. But I do admit I have made and use Ladybird homes and butterfly shelters.
