Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of building a semi-commercial aquaponic greenhouse in Morocco.
I was thinking of building a passive solar greenhouses because the costs would be reduced on the long term and the greenhouse wouldn't require much maintenance once it's set.
I can't find any documentation about people who've already set a passive solar greenhouse anywhere in Africa.
1) Is it because that system is only profitable in climates where there's huge fluctuations of temperatures (i.e: very cold in the winters and hot in the summers) or would it also be advantageous in a continental/ on the Atlantic coast climate like in Rabat (Morocco) where the average temperature is 22 °C (in the coldest months the temperature is between -3°C and 18°C)?

2) I'm thinking of burying the fish tanks in the ground. How would that affect anything with a passive solar greenhouse set up? How would it affect the water temperature?

In the below picture is an overview of the DWC Aquaponic system we plan on building.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Kat

Not sure if South Africa is in your scope of greenhouses - here are a lot of them although shade net is mostly used to prevent pest from devouring high value crops/ wind damage. - You can also check out Build-it-Solar - they've got a lot of DIY ideas well worth looking at.  There are a few commercial systems available.
