Newbe water? about water color/ algae
Im very new to aquaponics I have made a set up using barrels and it sets outdoors Im fish-less cycling the system and the water has turned a red-sh brown kind of like pond water. Is this algae and will be a problem? thanks all

Reddish brown color? Are you using expanded clay pebbles as your media and did you wash it before filling your growbeds?

Im using pea pebbles I drill lots of holes in the bottom of a 5 gal bucket and washed it out very well before i dumped it in the grow beds. The reason I think it may be algae is there is a big round horse trough near buy and it has a red-sh algae growing in it and do to the pump on the aquaponis unit it would keep the red stuff stirred up. Well that's my thoughts anyway. The water ran clear for about 4 days and the unit is outdoors and gets a lot of sun.
