Greetings,
After reading about aquaponics and aquaponic systems for the last 8 months or so, I decided to pull the trigger and attempt my own system.
I have an area in my kitchen that gets some good light and have enough room for two racks. Each rack will hold one 105qt (26gallon) tote for the goldfish and three 65qt (16gallon) totes for the grow beds. I am on the fence about using one of the 65qt totes for a sump to maintain my water level. Since I have pretty much killed everything I have tried to grow out in the backyard, I thought I would start small and see if I can grow some veggies here in the house in a more controlled environment.
My plan is to have a 100gph pump move water continuously through the system and have some sort of valving system to divert water to the grow beds via a timer. Has anyone set up a system similar to this? Basically, I want to have either two or three grow beds to be my filter for one fish tank. I haven't solved the valving system yet, has anyone done a similar system?
Constructive criticism is welcome, I have my big boy pants on and can take it. :) Besides, I have killed PLENTY of plants in my attempts to be a city farmer and will welcome any advice.
