New to aquaponics
I am currently in the process of converting an ibc tote. Last year I dabbled in bin gardening, and I enjoyed doing it. It was just so expensive, for all that soil! Not to mention my problem keeping rabbits and moles out of everything.
Have been reading up on cycling and hope to have the water cycled through by spring. I live in SC, near Augusta georgia, we do not have very intense winters. The ground does freeze, sometimes. Any suggestions on winter weather veggies I might be able to whet my whistle.
Also, I am leaning towards expanded shale. I do want to grow carrots and onions if possible.
What is the deal with the soiled grow beds? I think they are called filter beds or something. My mind is forgetting right now.

Most winter hardy vegetables are in the leafy green category. Kale, spinach, and corn mache are a few good ones.

YES, wicking beds. thanks! I was on my phone and if I left to look it up, I would have to start all over again.
