Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi, just joined this group or community. I am at a loss as to what to do. My PH has been 4.0 for over a month. Had trouble with the pump, lost 4 fish but the pump is fine now. Other numbers are good. I have added lots of white coral rocks, calcium chips from the aquaponic store, egg shells and now bought some Mad Farmer PH Up. It went up to 5.0 2 days ago. Checked again today, back to 4. I have been adding 1 tablespoon of PH Up at a time as there are no directions on the bottle. I also have air stones in the fish tank. The plants in the pipe system look good as do the plants in the grow bed. Can anyone help???? Please. Mahalo, LuLu

Little more information,

What is the volume of water in your system?

What is your media?

How much are you feeding your fish everyday?

Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate readings?

Age of system?

What test method are you using?

Most of the calcium buffers you have listed are slow acting which is good. You don't want your PH swinging wildly as the organisms in your system don't like it. You may want to pick up some potassium bicarbonate (a main ingredient of PH UP) off ebay which is a faster acting buffer.
