Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I hope this is not a dumb question anyway has anyone ever used lint from the dryer for starting seeds? I am trying to grow lettus but the seeds are so small it falls through the cracks. I thought about using unbleached paper towels but we have a lot of lint from the dryer and I wonder if it could be used like rockwool?

I need to make myself clear...what I am trying to say is when broadcasting seeds in the flood and drain box the seeds seem to fall too deep in the box....make sesne?

If you use fabric softener in the dryer it might cause the lint to repel water a bit but you could always try it.  What's the worst that could happen?  If it doesn't work, come back and report.  If it does work, let us know.

Probably want to keep it to a minimal amount you put into an aquaponics system since if there are residues from the fabric softener, you don't want to cause sudzing in the system by loading a huge amount of it into a small aquaponics system.

Lucky for us we make our  own laundry soap. I think it might be safe to use. Gonna try it and report back to you all. Thanks.
