Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hello fellow Aquapons. I am in the assembly stage of my first AP system (300 gallon total). I have all the GBs lined with Dura Skrim and i purchased a 17'x10' piece for my 100 gallon oval galvanized stock tank (repurposed) but come to find out the Dura Skrim is not the most flexible plastic and will not fit nicely. Has anyone had luck cutting and sealing Dura Skrim to fit in a similar application or know something else to line it with. If not, I may have to resort to finding a used IBC tote or similar. Your help is greatly appreciated!

if you can find something to replace the galvanized tank, do so..

i've seen a few galvanized tanks coated, and painted with pond paint, and most of them ended up flaking/peeling before too long, and once that happens, the zinc is going to start leaching into the water, and will kill your fish..

i'm overly cautious with some things, and this could very well be one of them, but unless i actually see something work, i tend to be.. skeptical

i attended an online aquaponic seminar a few years ago, the lecturers went on about how well the galvanized tanks were working for them with no issues.. they said that they had been working for years, when it was really months

they hushed up the fish kill that took place shortly after the seminar
