Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

have been a gardener for years, hardscape for a job, fish and soon to hunt for my meat. I used to watch the fish tank for hours after work, fall asleep and wake up with a stiff neck and a sleeping leg. Sitting in my chair one day staring at the fish playing peekaboo. I had an idea Its winter, the price for broccli (one of the fav's) just hit point where I'm about to stand at the doors with a picket sign. My idea was lets do this inside i'll just grow my broccoli inside!!Ha i'll just make some space small out of the way. Hey people grow pot inside why not a head of lettuce. I dove right into it looking up everything I could find on the internet about hydroponicaly growing food indoors. after sifting through endless "weed" I found a video of a guy 3 boys farm with all these elaborate grow beds some vertical  some on angles with huge! water supply. I was so star struck at what information I was absorbing from his videos and what I was seeing I felt like I had just found the Willy Wonka Golden Ticket I did a bunch of searching, went to the book store found a few books one being Aquaponic Gardening far to excited to finish cover to cover of them all and the fact it has taking me awhile between working for customers, fixing our Garden Centre shop and my own "adventures in life" to get this far(2years). With what I've read so far and what iv learned from haveing a few fish tanks I have come up with something that moves water around... no plants yet the seedlings are just starting out!! (SO EXCITED TO SEE SPROUTS) Im not quite sure what I have created which is kind of funny but so far the set up is from fish tank to canister filter from there gravity takes it through 3 grow troughs and into a tank at the bottom with FULLER'S EARTH not sure if this stuff is rocks or clay by looking at it or even crushed tile says on bag its pH safe and was used by NASA as hydroponic media so its in there. from the tank then is pumped to top trough and then gravity feeds through 4 more troughs before entering back to the tank. I plan on adding the plants as soon as they are ready. Any tips from fellow AP'ers are very welcome
