Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Im not sure if Im posting this in the right area. After studying for quite some time I am ready to move forward with this. I have about 4 acres to work with and recently bought a big greenhouse for cheap. I also have a 30x50 pole barn that doesnt get much use so it may get some fish tanks or something eventually. We also have a creek that runs thru our property which may get damned up into a pond. Havent made a decision on the tanks or grow beds yet but Im just like everyone else, the cheaper the better! Build or buy? I will try to post pics soon of the property and plan on documenting this journey. All input is welcome.

Hi Mike,

Congratulations, I know you'll find it rewarding.

I'm in Bloomington. You may see my hobby sized system by clicking on my icon.  And i know of another guy in Bloomington planning a system.

AP Com. member, John R., who built my control and web monitoring system lives in W. Lafayette.

David Jones is planning one in Columbus.

Keep us posted,

After building a dam, would there be enough of a fall for the water to run a hydro-electric generator?  Or does the stream perhaps have enough flow by itself?

Turn back now! This is your final warning! TOO LATE!

Welcome and good luck.

Hi Mike,

Nice of you to join us and welcome! Suggest you design a system from the picture you have(in your mind), share it here to get some additional ideas from everyone, get prices tabled and compare it to your budget. I think you're lucky to have all that space and other resources to work with and look forward to see it as you go along.

Im pretty sure it would. It feeds the elk farm across the road.

Hi Mike,

Can you tell what plant/root you're holding in the picture?
