My plan to build a greenhouse and set up an aquaponics system over the summer haven't materialized. I am still wanting to refine the design and associated engineering issues. Instead, I am contemplating setting up a smaller (learn-the-ropes) set-up in a corner of my basement. What issues should I be aware off... like grow lights the local gendarmes think means I am growing 'weed.' :-)
My concern would be any "fishy" smells. Advice, experiences and suggestions appreciated.
Humidity is probably the biggest issue I know of with fish indoors. You may want to hook up a dehumidifier in the basement.
If it smells, you are probably over feeding or need to remove the dead fish. In my big outdoor systems when I stick my face right down by the water I can detect the slightest "fishiness" but I think that is mostly the smell of the fish feed.
