I live in the mountains north of Granada in Spain. We have only been here a year so haven't seen all possibilities but the weather is quite extreme and I wondered if Aquaponics is viable here.
It is usually very dry and sunny. Summer is very hot, more than 30 degrees C but this winter we had nights as cold as -11 degrees C with water freezing.
Could I setup a system here? Would I need heating to prevent freezing? Which sort of fish would be ok here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I am very excited by the idea of Aquaponics.
Let me ask you this. Does your area support any fisheries? Can gardens grow in the winter? If yes then you have no problems. If no, you most likely have to provide protection.
What fish grow in the wild in your area? How much are you willing to provide ($) to keep your system running?
