Recently I had a leak in my tank and at first I just thought the plants were a taking in a lot of water however on the second week of adding water I came home to just a few inches of water in my 30 gallon tank I knew there was a leak.<img></img> (We had so much rain the leak was not obvious at first, until that much water was gone. My Nitrates were at 20; since I have the new tank no nitrites or nitrates have shown up.…</p>

<p>I plan to use a 300 gallon tank and use catfish soon. This is a trial to see what problems I encountered.</p>

Active worm tea is reputed to work with some of these problems when sprayed. I have not tried it yet, but it won't hurt your plants or fish so is probably worth a try if you can get some.

Well, I would probably follow your "just leave it alone" method but I'm a lazy gardener. However, provided you avoid letting much drip into the aquaponics system, baking soda mixed with water is fish safe enough (just don't want to spill it in the system since it would raise the pH and also the salt level in the system, keep it away from strawberries.)
